Dodge D24

The Dodge D24 is a classic American post-WWII vehicle produced between 1946 and 1949. Built on a 119.5-inch wheelbase, it featured a reliable 230 cubic-inch (3.8L) L-head inline-six engine that generated 102 horsepower. The D24 was celebrated for its smooth "Fluid Drive" transmission and spacious ride.

Arrived

We were approached by Matt Baker as it was his dads dream to get this old family car back to life. matt has fond memory's of being driven around in this car and we didn't want to disappoint. When this dodge came to us it was in a very sad state. With a heavy serving of corrosion after being sat in a field for 25 years. We knew it was going to be a lot of work to bring this Dodge back to its former glory For Matt's dad. The tyres were cracked and splitting. The chromework was rusted and pitted heavily. The fenders and floors had holes through them. with Matt asking the question "Have you ever took on anything as bad as this?".

Strip down

We carefully split the body from the chassis and then stripped the rest down revealing more corrosion.

Rebuild

This was a lot harder than expected as parts are extremely hard to find for this RHD model of the D24. We were even getting parts from australia when we could even get them, quite a lot had to be replicated in house. Doors were taken from the donor vehicle and spliced with the original as they were damaged but solid (other than the bullet holes) as well as sections of the chassis to make repairs of the original. An entire "trunk" floor was fabricated in house along with the spare wheel well. Trunk lid and fenders were also used from the original after making them fit properly due to slight differences between years. It all started coming together once the chassis and body were joined. We fitted a newly made in house wiring harness converting it from the 6v system to a modern 12v system. The rechromed parts turned out great and paintwork came out perfect.

Unveiling

We drove the car to Matt's Dad's farm one evening and covered ready to surprise his dad and the rest of the family the next morning. Matt was over the moon and was amazed with how the car has turned out as this was his first time seeing it fully built too.
